JOSÉ SUAREZ PEÑA

JOSÉ SUAREZ PEÑA is known as Pitín Jr., because his nickname comes from the guitarist Pitín de Utrera. The Peña on the part of his father and mother brought him as a child to the parties, baptisms, weddings etc. From a very young age he began to play with his aunt Pepa la Feonga, with only 14 years he travelled with Bernarda, Gaspar and his grandfather el Cuchara. With 16 years he debuted at the Potaje, the world's first flamenco festival.

He is the habitual guitarist of the Utreran singer Manuel de Angustias as well as musical accompanist of many others such as José Valencia, Tomás de Perrate, Miguel el Funi, and countless artists whom he has accompanied as guitarist. He is very requested by them because of his compass mastery and his musical knowledge, due to his passion for his instrument and his desire to continue studying.

He has worked as a teacher for eleven years at the City Council of Utrera without leaving aside his performances. At the same time, he has participated in many of the albums of the Bajañi, Sony, Ferro Music companies, doing quite ample work on the cante and the families from Utrera.

Little by little he made his way in the recording studios and it was with Madrugá la Noche de los Gitanos, where he started this journey, here he directed, produced and composed an album with more than 200 people: from costaleros, singers and musicians. In this same album he released his first musical composition dedicated to the Virgin of Esperanza de Utrera with the title Madre de los Patriarcas/ Mother of the Patriarchs. It was followed by several records of Christmas carols, sound archives of the tertulia flamenco of Utrera and gypsy themes.

By continuing his work, he assumed new experiences and began to make his way with a show Los Cantes de Fernanda y Bernarda, directing artists such as Macanita, José Valencia or Pitingo. He continued to find new paths with artists such as Rubén Olmo (National Dance Award) whom he directed in his show Anaranía. He programmed shows for Casas Cantaoras (De Utrera Somos) or Flamenco Biennial (Yo vengo de Utrera).

He is very required as a lecturer because of his personal and artistic experience, he got to make presentations at the Festival Escuela Utrera Suena, music conservatories and schools. He has currently finished his studies of professional flamenco guitarist at the conservatory of Seville Cristóbal de Morales. He does not stop participating and creating numerous shows, accompanying with his guitar, composing music and sharing his experience with those artists and programmers who ask for him.
