
Not only is he one of the greatest guitarists of the modern world of flamenco, but also one of the most gifted contemporary composers in recent decades. Tablao de Carmen can boast that on its stage along with Chicuelo came out Mario Escudero, Angelita Vargas, La Tolea, Yerbabuena, Sara Baras, Adrián Galia, Belén Maya, Antonio ‘El Pipa’, Joaquin Grilo. Juan Gomez has accompanied the most outstanding cantaores such as Enrique Morente, Rancapino, Chano Lobato, José Mercé, Duquende, Mayte Martín, and Potito, performing on the same stage with the musicians of the highest rank Chano Domínguez, Carles Benavent , Jorge Pardo, Jordi Bonell, Maria Joâo Pires. In 2000, Juan Gómez "Chicuelo" issued his first CD with recordings of his own solo compositions named «COMPLICES (Harmonia Mundi)». The «Flamenco Hoy» magazine has chosen this CD as the best compilation of the solo guitar compositions. At the moment, "Chicuelo" is directing the recording of Duquende’s latest album. Juan Gómez’ creativity is highly valued in the most prestigious flamenco dance companies: Antonio Canales, Israel Galván, Joaquín Cortés. Israel Galván asked "Chicuelo" to take the lead of the musical part of the show, presented at the Biennale in Seville in 2000. "Chicuelo" often performs with the stars of flamenco cante – Miguel Poveda and Duquende, with whom he toured Europe, Japan and the United States. Juan Gómez "Chicuelo" is the musical director of the musical "Tarantos" (directed by Emilio Hernández, choreography by Javier Latorre).
