Isabel Bayón

Isabel Bayón

Bring new and don’t have fear for the mistakes – that’s the way which enriches every activity. Bright and unique Isabel Bayón follows and sometimes leads this way.

"I learn from everybody, taking something good of them"

She knows a lot about the history of flamenco and can judge the development and the movement of the flamenco tradition – thirty years of experience of studying the technology and her own taste unmistakably suggest her the right directions. And she often chooses simplicity for her performances.

Isabel Bayón is a native of Andalusia. From the early childhood the rhythms of flamenco have charmed and fascinated her. Her meteoric rise to the top of the fame was like a wave of colorful concert shawl. At the age of 16, she graduated two Conservatories in Cordoba and Seville. Matilda Corral named her one of her best students, provisioning her world fame, which was not long to wait for. In 1978, Isabel debuted in a concert of the world-famous dancer Antonio Ruiz Soler, after which she began to be invited to various festivals, both at home and abroad. In 1988, Isabel got the grand prize of the competition «Ciraldillo lo Baile» in Seville and three years later became a soloist in the play «Azabache». The real acknowledgement abroad for Isabel Bayón came in 1994 when the great dancer Mario Maya invited her to his dance troupe to participate in the performances of «De lo flamenco» and «Requem». Then the troupe toured throughout Europe and was really successful. At the same time, Isabel makes the choreography for the play «Oripando» for the Spanish National Ballet.

«I’m Selfish»

What qualities should a person claiming the applause of the world possess? Dedication, perseverance, persuasiveness...

Isabel herself, while communicating with journalists, explains her success not without a hint of irony: "It's very simple: I’m selfish" – she says. "Every time I go to the stage, I get immense pleasure – why shouldn’t I enjoy it? It is a pity that not everyone on the planet is able to feel and appreciate the magic of Flamenco – for many people this dance is just noise and clatter". But Isabel did not stop there, her dream then was to make her own troupe. And in 2001 the dream came true under the name of «La compañía flamenca de Isabel Bayón». In 2002, she presented at the 12th Biennale in Seville the performance “Life” along with her troupe. The play had a great success, and a new round of world touring began. In 2010, at the 16th Biennale in Seville the jury awarded Isabel the highest award in the category "Best Female Dance"!

Isabel has already been to Russia twice – in 2008 and 2009 – at the invitation of the Moscow school Pasion Flamenco (flamencocenter.ru). In 2011 in Moscow there will be the 10th Moscow International Flamenco Festival «¡VIVA ESPANA!». That gives the Russian audience a unique opportunity to get in touch with the charming world of flamenco and to see the inimitable Isabel Bayón!
